DR helping to retrofit housing for older women
21 March 2025
Deicke Richards has been working on an exciting new project which transforms unused Queensland Rail properties into affordable housing for older women in the Brisbane region.
The refurbishment led by Housing All Australians (HAA), will ensure the properties are fit for purpose, while Churches of Christ Housing Services Limited (CCHSL) will manage the properties and allocate tenants once the works are completed.
Deicke Richards has worked to adapt and modify the former QLD crew-quarters into appropriate shared affordable housing for vulnerable women aged over 55. The project is well into motion, with plans to start building later this year.
Ten additional sites throughout the state are also being explored.
Women aged 55 and over are increasingly experiencing housing stress, and we applaud this innovative approach to creating more housing stock for vulnerable groups. DR through methodologies like adaptive reuse are committed to contributing to solutions that are environmentally and economically sustainable to alleviate the housing crisis wherever possible.
