Mount Ommaney Special School students turned the first sod on an exciting new project last week, alongside Minister for Education and Industrial Relations Grace Grace.
The ceremony marked the start of construction on the school’s new state-of-the-art, multi-storey building. The $7.7 million building is designed by DR and will house four classrooms, an industrial kitchen, a therapy space and vocationally-focused laundry – facilities that will create wonderful opportunities for students to develop their experience and skills, and strengthen the school’s relations with its broader community.
Led by Principal Wayne Wilkinson, a large number of students and staff from the school attended the event, along with Jess Pugh, MP for Mount Ommaney, and representatives from the Department of Education, Badge Constructions and DR. A number of students, including non-verbal children, spoke excitedly about their future learning environment and had made a special celebratory cake in the form of a construction site!
