Bokarina Beach Steps Ahead
3 March 2016
Bokarina Beach has reached a significant milestone, with an approval from the Sunshine Coast Council last week. The development area occupies one of the last remaining residential land parcels on the east coast.
Sunshine Coast Council has approved Stockland’s detailed master plan for the 29.76ha site, subject to conditions. The land sits midway between Kings Beach, Caloundra and Mooloolaba, and is part of the coast’s high profile Oceanside Kawana precinct.
The master plan provides for 1,120 dwellings and a mix of community facilities, retail and dining, a 2ha village park, land for a new surf club facility and public beach access. The plan also delivers walking and cycle connections to Oceanside Town Centre and the Kawana Health Precinct, which includes the Sunshine Coast University Hospital.
Deicke Richards Associate Director Phil Smith said last week’s approval was a welcome result, some eight years after first beginning work on the project. “It has been a great project to contribute to, given its importance within this part of the coast.”
“Bokarina sits within Stockland’s Oceanside Kawana master plan area, which also includes a new town centre and the Oceanside health hub, described as Australia’s single largest investment in health infrastructure. Our role was to provide urban design and planning advice, along with built form guidance – working towards outcomes that made sense to the community and which would also maximise the value and contribution of the development. The final master plan sustains key principles from the earliest urban design thinking and also delivers a high level of finer grain detail for the residential lot layouts.”
Deicke Richards was lead consultant to Stockland, working collaboratively with RPS, Calibre, ASK and GHD. The practice is also a consultant to Stockland on the master plan for its Oceanside town centre.
