Ainsley Carey, Architectural Student

Ainsley Carey is an Architectural Student at Deicke Richards and a proud Yuwibara woman. She completed a Bachelor of Architectural Design at Bond University in 2025, where she held an Indigenous scholarship and was treasurer of the Architecture Student Association. She currently works part of the week as a Designer at Blaklash as well as her work at Deicke Richards.

Ainsley’s connection to Country and culture informs her interest in Indigenous perspectives within design and within the systems that shape the built environment. For Ainsley, designing with Country means responding to what already exists on a site and creating spaces connected to place, people and story. Her approach to working with community is built on listening closely to what is said and paying attention to what is shown, then translating that into design outcomes that reflect the people they are made for. She describes it as a matter of respect, responsibility, and accountability.

Ainsley works by hand first, using sketching to test ideas and work through relationships before moving to digital tools. Her university projects range from landscape and drawing studies at Fingal Heads to a parametric branching joint system fabricated through 3D printing, and a brick community centre organised around shared courtyards.
