Full STEAM Ahead at Hymba Yumba

2 March 2022

Associate Director Luke Watson proudly joined Queensland Senator Paul Scarr, Member forJordan Charis Mullen, Hutchinson Builders and the Hymba Yumba Independent School (HYIS) community today to officially open their new STEAM building.

It was a privilege to witness school captains Tyrell Hartas and Bronson Tangihaere’s acknowledgement of country and Jahmarley Dawson’s sharing of stories, songs and dance – and special smoking ceremony.

Designed to engage young minds, the building offers a future-focused education in science, technology, engineering, the arts and mathematics – equipping jarjums with the tools they’ll need to achieve their cultural, community and economic goals.

Hymba Yumba inspires First Nations young people to learn and lead in both worlds. Deicke Richards is currently working on stage three of the school’s building plan, a purpose-built hall for the arts and sport, learn more here.
